Marian Ros

Marian Ros, M.D., Ph.D.


Dr. Ros got her M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Cantabria (Spain) and specialized in Human Anatomy and Embryology. The subject of her Ph.D. research was kidney development and the polycystic kidney disease. She started working on limb development as postdoctoral researcher and after a stay in Dr. John Fallon lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison she established her own group at the University of Cantabria in 1996 where she became Full Professor in 2005.

In 2007, Dr. Ros’ group was selected to form part of the new Institute of Biomedicine and Biotechnology of Cantabria (IBBTEC) created by the Spanish Research Council (CSIC), the University of Cantabria and the Government of Cantabria to impulse Bioscience research in the area. With the opening of the IBBTEC in 2013, Dr. Ros group moved to the new Institute building.

Dr. Ros has successfully combined throughout her career research and teaching, mainly to medical students. She is actively involved in the formation of young researchers, in the organization of seminar series and in outreach activities such as open public discussion and forums on ethical issues related to stem cell research, animal use for investigation.

At present Dr. Ros is Chair of the Department of Cell signaling at the IBBTEC and member of the board of directors of the Spanish Societies for Developmental Biology and for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Dr. Ros is member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Cantabria and received the Prize of Investigation Consejo Social University of Cantabria “Jose María Parés” in 2014.
